Take a step into the barren cold,

Where the winds weep tonight,

And the wretched hounds howl.

Take a step into the barren cold,

Where the people go astray,

And their whispers wallow

In the hidden depths.

I know it is daunting,

To take a step into the barren cold,

My dear child,

But the arms of a clock do not care

For the countless fears that so plague us.

So take a leap of faith,

Close your eyes

And dive in.

For you were never meant to tread carefully,

My dear child,

You were meant to fly.

Take a step into the barren cold,

Where you were always meant to be

Where you will be alright.

Description:

This poem is about the fear of coming to terms with our future. As kids, we’re always told that one day we will grow up and become adults. Becoming an adult means that we have all these new responsibilities that we have to deal with. I’m sure a lot of us can relate to the feeling of the immense pressure that our future brings. Unfortunately, as this poem states, “The arms of a clock do not care for the fears that so plague us.” Time won’t wait for us to be ready, but life will find a way to make things work. We mess up, fall down, and get back up. So instead of fearing our future, the “barren cold”, we should embrace it instead. After all, we were never meant to tread carefully. We were meant to fly.
