Snow-capped mountain reflected in a calm lake, surrounded by pine trees. Clear blue sky with clouds. Peaceful and serene setting.

Mirror mirror on the wall

Why do your embers bore into

the dirt searching for a diamond

In my chest.

Glass, ice smooth, not a ripple

Not a crack, no crisscrossing

like the spiderwebs over

The crystal soul despite

the beauty my emeralds stare,

Frown, cry back

Though no gems were planted in this dust

Only mold-infested orbs.

Eyes ruining pictures.

Or maybe it's just – me

Description

This poem is about a person who tries desperately to be positive about their appearance despite their self-doubt. The constant use of gems emphasizes the narrator’s struggles, which eventually move beyond their outer beauty to their inner beauty. The last line holds two meanings; it could be the person running the pictures, but the poet tries to showcase how it is all in the narrator’s head.
