A broken photo of two people overlays a dark street intersection. A yellow car approaches a red traffic light. The scene feels tense.

Your smiling eyes haunt me

From the yellow picture frame

As you beg me, hoping, to reverse

Your fate, like time was clay in my hands

But the meeting has happened

Taxi waving a passing greeting to a traffic light

As it flies around the red

Puzzle pieces left on the tar

Littered between the white metal

A father left without his gravity

A family, all but one, trapped by mechanical hand

Still your smiling eyes haunt me

For evermore.

Description

This poem is about the emotional aftermath of a car accident and the choices that lead to it. In the poem, a taxi skips a red light only to end up hurting others. It represents that our choices have consequences and that we should take responsibility for our actions. Furthermore, it reflects the moment when one realizes one made a wrong decision.
